India: Illegal Detention

Illegal Detention in India

I reported on illegal detention and torture in India from 2012-2015.

The Public Safety Act in Jammu and Kashmir

In 2011, police arrested 14 year-old Faizan under the Public Safety Act- national security legislation allowing police to arrest and jail people without charge or trial for up to 18 months. He was held in a prison 300 kilometers from his home for 40 days. Below is his story. The video was part of a larger "stop police abuse" campaign targeting provisions of the Public Safety Act.
